Often we can’t help but apply those beliefs in the work place. Just as common are those who have a feeling of entitlement; that they are owed what they get rather than earning it.
That belief could come from being Canadian. We are spoiled in the feeling that we can accomplish whatever we dream of.
Some people believe they don’t deserve success or happiness, and because of that belief chances are they will never achieve either.
Some people believe in justice, that it is a fundamental right in a free country. Some people believe that law and justice don’t go hand in hand and it’s possible to have one without the other. Some people, myself included, believe that no matter how bad things look, pieces will just fall into place and work out, regardless of the situation. And in my case, they usually do.
On the work front, I have met enough people in my life to know that there IS a job for everyone. Unique qualities in all of us mean some people are cut out to excel at and enjoy certain jobs while others aren’t. It’s up to us to harness these talents and interests and challenge ourselves to find the right job to exploit our uniqueness. An accountant who loves numbers is going to do better in that position than someone who becomes an accountant as a second career choice. It is human nature to excel at something we enjoy or that we feel comes naturally to us.
Thank goodness that our beliefs and talents are different or our society would be so boring and robotic. I believe we can all have what we want, and if we focus on it and stay open minded to opportunities, they will come our way. Sometimes we need to be a bit creative to see past the exterior. It’s not uncommon to find the hidden treasures in a job like the amazing boss, or positive incentives, or flexibility. We have to believe that finding those gems in the workplace is possible or it won’t happen.
Remember the saying, be careful what you wish for because it just might happen? I expect it to happen. It’s all about karma. If you believe that dream job exists, you will find it.
Being proactive and going after what we want doesn’t hurt either. Neither does wishing on a falling star.
