Snooze blues

What's keeping you up at night?

A recent telephone survey found that a Blackberry or other device has prevented 60% of frequent travellers from getting a good night's sleep. About the same number of people said they take a relaxant or stress medication while travelling overnight.

The survey of 12,500 adults who take an average of two or more work-related or other trips per year also found that 51% prefer a perfect night's sleep to great sex. That compares with only 31% when the survey was done a decade ago.

The poll, conducted by research firm STUDYLOGIC LLC on behalf of Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc., revealed that almost half of respondents would rather have a sleeping pill on their pillow than a traditional chocolate.

Questions were asked between June 15 and July 15, and the survey has a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.
